Hi there.

Could anyone please inform me of the differences between

Cubase 5.1 VST and Cubase 5.1 VST32

also I would appreciate a comment on what my benefits would be in updating
from Cubase 5.1 VST32 to either of the above.

Many thanks in advance

Hang on, you want to upgrade from Cubase 5.1 VST32 to Cubase 5.1 VST32???

there's gotta be a typo there somewhere.

Youre right. - Sorry

I meant upgrading from Cubase 5.0 vst32 til cubase 5.1 VST
- or is this in fact more like comparing apples with lemons, as these 2
product might present a pro and a semi-pro line of a product ??

meaning that i am better off with Cubase 5.0 vst32 than with cubase 5.0
VST / Cubase 51VST but that cubase 51 vst32 would be best.

Ive been searching the web (including steinberg/cubase and pinnacle sites
without being able to solve this question

Kind regards

I think you would want to upgrade to Cubase VST32 5.1, or possibly even
VST32 5.2. Check out the pinnacle FTP site for available versions and
Version History etc, as well as the actual update files.

Yes, this statement is 100% correct.

VST32 is significantly more powerful than VST standard, so you should keep
VST32, but updatee it to version 5.1...

5.1 is a free patch to 5.0.

Get it here here:

ftp.pinnaclesys.com/Steinberg/download/Downloads_PC/Cubase_VST/Cubase_VST_51x/51r1/

you want the files eight files called Setup_PC_Cubase_VST32_V51R1_Update.XXX

There's also public beta v5.2, but I never had issues with v5.1, so...

How is VST32 more powerful. I would be interested to know. I am running
VST, and wonder what I would gain by going to VST32. Any examples would
be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, it was more or less like this:

Cubase VST: The basic package
Cubase VST Score: Added better score editing
Cubase VST32: Score editing plus support of 32Bit audio (others only
support 24Bit)

you've also got the "true tape" feature. Never bothered with VST32, though
to be honest, as VST standard did everything i needed.

For some reason it requires a whole lot more computer power
though...even using 24bit.
I can easily run 50 tracks using VST 24 on an OS9 Mac with only 266MHZ
and 320mb of ram.
VST 32 won't even drop out of the red long enough to play at all.

I found the score distracting as well. On 24 it tracks smoothly while
it's playing. On 32, the bar thingy keeps jumping back and forth on
each note.

32 bit is useless unless you have the rest of the equipment to match
and intend to actually sell CD's with audiophile quality. If you're a
home studio person who mostly makes MP3's for the web, any quality
you'll gain from 32 bit is going to be lost with lower end equipment
and mp3 compression.

There's a bit more to 32-bit than just higher-fi.

Headroom while mixing.
More resolution to work with when applying effects, particularly
pitch-shifts and the like.
In Cubase, the ability to use the TruTape effect.

I've always wondered about TruTape and whether it's actually worth
using.
I currently use PSP Vintage Warmer or in a pinch I'll use Magneto.
What makes TruTape worth mentioning?

What makes TruTape worth mentioning?
Because someone asked what difference 32-bit recording made :-)
